Winthrop University, a public, comprehensive institution founded in 1886, is located in Rock Hill, South Carolina, just 25 miles southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina. The university's campus combines historical architecture and modern facilities, set on a 456-acre tract that includes a world-class pedestrian-friendly layout. Winthrop offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through five colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Visual and Performing Arts, Education, and Human Development. The university is known for programs in business, education, and the visual and performing arts. With a moderately selective application process, Winthrop admits a diverse body of students each year. The university provides residential facilities, encouraging on-campus living to enhance the educational experience.
