Coker College, now known as Coker University since 2019, is situated in Hartsville, South Carolina, approximately 70 miles southeast of Columbia and 60 miles northeast of Florence. The private liberal arts institution occupies a 15-acre campus marked by Georgian-style architecture and a central oval lawn, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Founded in 1908 as a women's college and becoming fully co-educational in 1969, Coker maintains small class sizes and follows a round-table learning approach where students and faculty engage in discussion-based education. The university offers undergraduate programs with particular strengths in business administration, criminal justice, and education, while also providing several graduate degree options. Students are required to live on campus for their first two years, with housing available in six residential facilities, and the institution competes in NCAA Division II athletics as the Cobras.
