Founded in 1764, Brown University stands among the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in the United States. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, this private Ivy League university integrates a characteristic open curriculum into a highly selective academic framework, allowing students the freedom to design their unique academic pursuits. The campus is notable for its Colonial-era architecture and urban setting, situated within walking distance of downtown Providence, approximately one hour from Boston. Brown provides a vibrant residence life with most undergraduates living on campus in university housing. Academically, Brown is renowned for its robust programs in liberal arts, engineering, and entrepreneurship. While the university does not emphasize athletic programs above academics, Brown competes in NCAA Division I athletics as a member of the Ivy League and is known as the Brown Bears.
