Look, only come to Akron if your heart's set on a STEM career. If you're ready to bust ass in engineering, medicine, applied science and tech, or nat science, get in cheap and use it as a stepping stone to med or grad school elsewhere.

I think that Akron is what you make of it. You will get out the effort you put in, and it is important to realize how inexpensive it is compared to a lot of other schools. UA degrees are very well-respected and they genuinely want to help you get a job. Don't come here expecting to have everything handed to you on a silver platter, this is college and it is supposed to prepare you for real life so be expected to work. Overall great campus, not the best food (thanks aramark), strong stem and nursing programs, very welcoming social/greek community. Go zips!

It's very saddening to see what this university has turned into. I came here six years ago in 2012 right out of high school as a music major when the program was at the very tail end of its prime. In the Spring of 2013, six of the original faculty members who made the program what it once was retired, thus beginning the mass exodus of faculty and the downward spiral of a thriving music school. It's Spring 2018 and I am leaving the University after six years without getting a degree due to changes in the program, a terrible time with financial aid and being able to attend school continuously as a commuting, middle class, local student and can honestly say good riddance. This school does not care whether or not you graduate just as long as they can suck as much money out of you as possible to keep it from going bankrupt due to declining enrollment. The University of Akron is dying just like the city around it. I'll bet in 20 years, it will be closed.
