The Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) is a private art and design college located in the University Circle cultural district of Cleveland, Ohio, adjacent to Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Established in 1882 as the Western Reserve School of Design for Women, the institution occupies a contemporary five-story building that merged with its historic Joseph McCullough Center for the Visual Arts in 2015. CIA offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees across 15 majors including industrial design, animation, game design, and traditional studio arts, with particular recognition for its automotive design and biomedical art programs. The college maintains specialized facilities including a glass hot shop, foundry, and digital fabrication lab, while requiring all students to complete a focused major and integrate liberal arts courses throughout their studies.
