The University of North Dakota, established in 1883, is located in Grand Forks along the Red River Valley at the Minnesota border. The 521-acre campus features a mix of historic Neo-Gothic architecture and modern facilities, including the Chester Fritz Library and the Leonard Hall Geology Building. UND operates as a public research university with comprehensive academic offerings, known particularly for its programs in aerospace, engineering, medicine, and energy studies, including one of the largest collegiate aviation programs in the nation. The university maintains a selective admission process and houses approximately one-third of its students in campus residences. As a member of the Summit League, UND competes in NCAA Division I athletics, with its hockey program participating in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and maintaining a strong presence in collegiate hockey.
