Hamilton College, founded in 1812 and located in Clinton, New York, is a private liberal arts college known for its rigorous academic curriculum and open curriculum structure allowing students greater academic freedom. Set in a rural, 1,350-acre campus with a notable collection of Regency and Federal architecture, Hamilton is approximately 45 miles from Syracuse and 90 miles from Albany. The college has a tradition of emphasizing writing and speaking as cornerstone values, reflected in its highly regarded communication and rhetoric studies. As a residential college, Hamilton offers a variety of housing options, including traditional dormitories and themed houses where students live and learn together around a particular focus. With a commitment to accessibility and diversity, Hamilton maintains a need-blind admission policy with a highly selective application process. While not broadly known for athletics, the school competes at the NCAA Division III level and is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference with the team name "The Continentals."
