Located in rural Hanover, New Hampshire, Dartmouth College is a private Ivy League institution established in 1769 to educate Native American students and English youth. The 269-acre campus combines traditional Georgian colonial architecture with modern facilities, centered around a historic green space in the Upper Connecticut River Valley. Operating on a quarter system rather than traditional semesters, Dartmouth maintains highly selective undergraduate admissions and is known for its liberal arts curriculum, Tuck School of Business, Thayer School of Engineering, and distinctive "D-Plan" academic calendar that enables year-round study. The college houses nearly all undergraduates in residential colleges and dormitories, fostering a residential academic community in its rural New England setting. Dartmouth competes in NCAA Division I athletics as the Big Green, with particularly strong programs in skiing, rowing, and women's rugby.
