Lake Superior State University, founded in 1946 as an extension of Michigan College of Mining and Technology, is a public institution located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, at the nexus of the United States and Canada. This niche university, primarily known for its natural sciences, environmental studies, fisheries and wildlife management programs, and engineering, situates students in a rural, lakeside campus ambiance imbued with Upper Peninsula character. While not in close proximity to a major city, this location offers a distinctive cross-border cultural experience against the backdrop of the Great Lakes. Academically, Lake Superior State University is an institution with moderate selective admissions. It provides a full residential experience with on-campus housing options.
