This is the chillest school. As a private school, they can let you do anything. So your electives don't count. "oh well we can see if we can make them count so you could go ahead and do the plus program" Private school means anything is possible. At Northeastern, anything is possible. Very nice and friendly, too.

I am both an Alumnus and Parent. I am also a graduate of two other universities and worked for another. Northeastern University far exceeds anyone's high expectations, even with all the 'buzz' over the past decade or so. Sadly, NU is lower ranked than other good universities because most most students graduate in 4.5 or 5 years (which naturally but unfortunately often alters the ranking formula factor of students who are measured/expected to graduate in 4 years). Nonetheless, students who are admitted experience a modern global perspective of higher education which some universities have attempt to replicate but, thus far, have not done so successfully to NU's level; it is the future. International campuses and co-op education experiences are the hallmark(s) of NU's education whether it's experience(s) in government service or bio-engineering and technology. NU is not cheap, but, for my adult-child, it has been life altering. When my adult-child was visiting campuses during his HS senior year, he was frankly uninterested until he visited NU. With specular SAT and GPA scores, he was accepted at top universities (including Ivy) and received 3/4 to full academic scholarships at most state universities; but my adult-child only had one school in mind: NU. I wasn't fully convinced at the time but now I am. NU exceeds its stellar reputation (...the HS students know this buzz more than their parents) - but it's more than buzz: NU delivers.

It just keeps getting better and better: My son is a second-year student after safely attending Northeastern University in-person through COVID, an astoundingly fantastic logistical achievement. NU was tops in environmental engineering and biological research - just on COVID alone. My son is challenged, engaged, and happy. Note: Rankings are artificially lowered because students often graduate in 4-5 years (often with Master's too!!) due to the impressive cooperative education program and educational/research opportunities on campus. As soon as my son went on tour, he had only one choice: Northeastern. It costs A LOT to attend, but, I admit (surprisingly ;)), it is worth it to see my son thrive so much here.

It is a large university so you need to be proactive or else you get lost in the middle of the crowd; however, there are lots of resources. The co-op program is the best thing they have. I have to confess I was skeptical at the beginning because I wanted to graduate earlier but the experience makes you a much better candidate plus allows you to change or fine tune your goals - in my case changed Masters Degree to Construction Management from Structures.

Great intern program gives students an opportunity to experience their field and change their minds, so they do not waste 4 years and hate what they are doing. Great job opportunities from those companies that co-op. Highly recommend.
