Mount Ida College no longer exists as an independent institution, as it was acquired by the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2018. Prior to its closure, Mount Ida College operated on a 72-acre suburban campus in Newton, Massachusetts, approximately eight miles from downtown Boston. The institution, founded in 1899 as a women's college, became co-educational in 1974 and was known for its career-focused programs in veterinary technology, dental hygiene, funeral services, and design. The campus, characterized by its mix of Victorian-era mansions and modern academic buildings, now serves as the Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst, offering career preparation programs and housing for students completing internships in the Greater Boston area.
