This is not a prep-school--it is a college! Professors will expect adult attitudes, though they are incredibly accommodating as long as you communicate. I have had an absolute blast at Simon's Rock despite my majors' lack of popularity. Staff has been happy to help me find ways both on and off campus to fulfill my credits and give me extra opportunities. If you want to learn something, this school will find a way to teach it to you.

Simon's Rock is unique in that it accepts people after 10th grade, so everyone is underage. This greatly reduces the partying atmosphere from a typical school. The academics are unparalleled -- many students who transfer away after two years to places like Harvard, Princeton, etc transfer back for their senior year because Simon's Rock is that much better. Unlike most undergraduate schools, Simon's Rock requires a senior thesis, and they take this very seriously. The effort one puts in to get a degree from Simon's Rock is far more rigorous than most Graduate schools. There is a huge focus on "language and thinking" -- nearly every class requires significant writing (and reading, of course). I once had a math class that I probably wrote 30 pages for during a semester. A writing class could easily generate 150 pages. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in thoughtful discussion and everyone is on a first name basis -- students, faculty, staff, provost, everyone.

Former student. I thought I was accepted based on my outstanding grades. My amazing test scores. But then I found out I got that acceptance letter bc a rich Jewish uncle PRIVATELY PAID THEM to take me. Disgraceful. Furthermore, if you are a conservative Midwesterner. You know, with VALUES. MORALS. You will be almost totally isolated from your ultra liberal peers and foreign peers who can't speak a lick of ENGLISH. Your women's study professor will look at your like you're a crazed alien bc you don't support Abortion. Your sociology professor will look at you like you're a nut case bc you TOTALLY GET why whites live on one side of the tracks and Blacks live...somewhere else. I could go on and on. My year there was laughable, at best. I didn't learn. Oh, and famous kids. They LOVE to accept celebrity children. Again, $$$. Doesn't matter that the kid is 12. Woody Allen Mia Farrow you two know who I'm referring to.
