I got my BA at a Big Ten state school, but needed to come back to school for some science prereqs for a follow-on program and I choose MC, which was the closest school. The biggest difference between a big research university and MC, is that MC students have experienced, PhD instructors. In a state school, you have a first-year grad student teaching most of your classes. I just finished a microbiology class with a teacher who has a PhD and spent years working with the FDA (Dr. G-O). You'll never get that in a big research university. At MC, the professors are here to teach. Damn, my CPR class here had a PhD teaching it!! The standards are high. These are not at all watered-down classes. They are really demanding. At my state school, I took 30 credit hours my last semester, because I knew there would be classes where I would only have to show up for the mid-term and final exams. This is not one of those schools. This is a rigorous and demanding school which will give you far more contact with experts than a big state university, at least in your first few years.
