Dillard University is a private historically black university nestled in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded in 1930 through the merger of Straight College and New Orleans University, Dillard carries a legacy of liberal arts education with a strong emphasis on research and public service. The campus is noted for its oak-lined avenues and a mix of modern and historic architecture, including the historic Rosenwald Hall. Academically, Dillard is known for its programs in nursing, business, and the humanities. Most students live on campus in one of the University's residence halls, fostering close-knit educational and living environments.
