Augustana College sits on a 115-acre wooded campus along the Mississippi River in Rock Island, Illinois, part of the Quad Cities metropolitan area. Founded in 1860 by Swedish Lutheran settlers, the private liberal arts institution features distinctive Swedish-influenced architecture, including the Old Main building which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The college operates on a trimester academic calendar and is known for its programs in accounting, biology, and education, while also maintaining a strong emphasis on pre-professional programs including pre-medicine and pre-law. Most students live in on-campus residence halls or transitional living areas across all four years, and the college competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Vikings, primarily in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
