The University of Miami is a private research institution located in Coral Gables, Florida, situated approximately seven miles south of downtown Miami. Established in 1925, the university's 239-acre main campus features Mediterranean-revival architecture with palm-lined walkways and coral rock buildings. The university comprises 11 schools and colleges, with particular academic strengths in marine science, medicine, business, and music through its renowned Frost School of Music. As a residential campus, UM houses freshmen and many upperclassmen in traditional residence halls and apartment-style complexes across its main campus.
