Jacksonville University occupies a 240-acre riverfront campus along the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida's Arlington neighborhood, positioned approximately 15 minutes from downtown Jacksonville and 20 minutes from the Atlantic coast. Founded in 1934 as a junior college before becoming a four-year institution in 1956, the university features Spanish-Mediterranean architecture across its waterfront setting. The private university maintains a selective admissions process and offers undergraduate and graduate programs through its four main colleges, with particular emphasis on nursing, marine science, business, and aviation. Traditional undergraduate students are required to live on campus for their first two years, with housing available in multiple residence halls and apartment-style complexes. The university competes in NCAA Division I athletics as the Dolphins, participating in the ASUN Conference.
