Gallaudet University, located in northeast Washington, D.C., is the world's only university designed specifically for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Established in 1864 with approval from President Abraham Lincoln, the 99-acre campus features Collegiate Gothic architecture and is designated as a National Historic Landmark District. The university maintains selective admission standards and delivers all instruction in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, offering comprehensive programs in fields such as deaf studies, ASL linguistics, interpretation, and education of the deaf, alongside traditional liberal arts and science majors.
