Current student and yes this school is tough but the rewards are there after I'm done. Getting great grades requires the utmost dedication. This school is bar none, especially true if you are studying earth based sciences (I'm a Geophysics major). However, one aspect of this school that is not discussed much is the professors. This school is a major research driven campus. You will be learning from professors that are leaders in their respective fields. While this is awesome, it leaves something to be desired from the professor because occasionally it is very apparent that a professors first priority is research and not teaching their students (I am only speaking from my department). I noticed this discrepancy after I came from the Community College of Denver. I have had more professor's elsewhere where they make sure you understand the material no matter what. However, most of my professor's lively hood lies within the most advanced classes at Mines, so maybe this will improve.

This school is very hard and takes a lot of dedication to get good grades. But knowing that you are going to one of the best engineering schools helps. When people see Mines on your resume they know that you are the best of the best and they respect you. Another big perk to going here is that you'll most likely get a job right out of school. Overall this school has an amazing small town feel and amazing programs that fit anyones desires.

It is a lot of hard work, but it is definitely worth it as long as you are sure that you want to go into a STEM career.
