Scripps College in Claremont, California, founded in 1926, is a private liberal arts women's college offering a rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum. Emphasizing a commitment to the arts, a hallmark of Scripps is the distinctive Mediterranean Revival architecture that characterizes its 32-acre campus. Located approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, Scripps is part of the Claremont Colleges consortium, which allows students to cross-register for courses at its partner institutions. Scripps is known for its competitive admissions process and a strong focus on humanities, social sciences, and the fine arts. As a residential college, Scripps maintains on-campus housing facilities for its students. While athletics are not its central focus, Scripps, together with Claremont McKenna and Harvey Mudd Colleges, competes in NCAA Division III as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas.
