If you are a student, former student, faculty member or parent, please help guide other prospective students by sharing your personal experiences at this college. What is it really like to go to Santa Monica College?
The faculty at SMC are great, the students are great as well. The administrative people however, are a different story. Human Resources on this campus is a complete joke, they do as little as possible to actually work and make life easier on the faculty whom already take the brunt of the most important work on campus (educating). Most of the other departments are rather worthless as well, from the bookstores incompetence, to the food servers complete lack of customer service and manners, to the inept payroll department, as well as most other admins are just awful at their jobs. This school is so bogged down by a lack of professionalism and having workers that do everything they possibly can to avoid working its quite astonishing that they even operate at all. As a professor at several community colleges in Los Angeles, SMC is by far the worst job I have ever taken, I have regretted it since day one. If I didn't require the paycheck for my very survival, I would quit right now.
