California Maritime Academy, located on a waterfront campus in Vallejo, California, approximately 30 miles northeast of San Francisco, is one of only seven degree-granting maritime academies in the United States. The campus occupies 89 acres along the Carquinez Strait and features specialized maritime training facilities, including a 500-foot training ship, maritime simulators, and waterfront laboratories. Established in 1929, Cal Maritime is a specialized public university within the California State University system, offering focused undergraduate programs in maritime transportation, engineering, technology, and business. The institution maintains a regimented training structure where students, known as cadets, wear uniforms and can participate in the U.S. Coast Guard license track programs. All students are required to live on campus during their first two years, and the academic calendar includes commercial cruise training aboard the Training Ship Golden Bear, providing hands-on maritime experience.
