Hey, I'm applying to USC, but I've heard mixed things about their SAT score requirements. Do they still require it, or is it test-optional now? I want to make sure I understand what they need before sending my application. Thanks!

USC does not require SAT scores for undergraduate admission in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years. The University of Southern California has adopted a test-optional policy, meaning you can choose whether to submit SAT or ACT scores as part of your application. This policy allows you to decide if your test scores accurately reflect your academic abilities and would strengthen your application.
If you choose not to submit test scores, USC will evaluate your application based on other components, including your academic performance in high school, the rigor of your coursework, extracurricular activities, personal statement, and letters of recommendation. The admission committee takes a holistic approach to reviewing applications, considering your full academic and personal profile.
Should you decide to submit SAT scores, USC will consider them as part of your overall application, but they won't penalize you for not including them. If you've taken the SAT and received scores that you believe strengthen your application, you can submit them. USC will superscore your SAT results, meaning they'll consider your highest section scores from different test dates to create your best possible composite score.
Keep in mind that certain USC merit scholarships previously required standardized test scores, but with the test-optional policy, you can now be considered for these scholarships without submitting SAT scores. The university evaluates scholarship candidates using the same holistic review process they use for admission decisions.
